Custom Electromechanical Device: From Concept to Production
A custom actuator with embedded drive electronics, engineered from concept to a production-ready design.
The problem
An OEM needed a compact electromechanical device delivering a specific force, stroke, and response that no standard component could provide, within a tight size and power budget.
The device also needed dedicated drive electronics and control, and had to be manufacturable at volume — not just workable as a one-off prototype.
Our approach
Cerebrus engineered the electromagnetic actuator and its mechanics together, shaping the magnetic circuit and coil to hit the required force-versus-stroke curve within the envelope and thermal limits.
In parallel, our embedded team designed the custom drive electronics and firmware to control the device precisely. We prototyped, characterized performance on the bench, and refined the design for manufacturability.
The result
The OEM received a characterized, production-ready device that met its force, stroke, response, and duty-cycle targets, complete with matched drive electronics.
Because the actuator and its electronics were engineered as one subsystem, the complete unit performed as intended and was ready to transition into volume manufacture.
